Finding comfortable, affordable footwear has long been my mission. Between my grueling job that requires walking several miles per day on hard and wet floors, and my love of hiking/outdoors, comfortable, durable footwear is a must, and I've been sorely disappointed for many years.

Finally, the Vasque Mantra hiking shoes are heaven on my feet. I went hiking a half hour after receiving them, and they needed no breaking in. The outer soles are very cushiony, especially beneath the heels, and there is plenty of toe wiggle room although the design makes them look narrower than they are.

The high ankles were a slight nuisance only very briefly, but they actually give ankle support, and are softly padded so that they don't hurt. I'm already accustomed to them on the first day, and I like the feeling of ankle support.

I found that Vasque shoes run small, so I, like other reviewers, had to order a half size up, and have to wear thick socks with them.

These shoes look and feel very well made, and I love them so much that I ordered 2 more types of Vasque shoes - the Solera Light Hiker, and the VST Goretex Trail Runner - and will eventually buy another 1 or 2 of the Mantra.

My only disappointment with these is that the "olive" color is what I would call a "drab khaki", but not a reason to rate them lower than 5 stars. I also wish they had this style in more colors, although they'll be discolored by our Arizonan "good red dirt". :-)

This shoe was comfortable, slip free, dry and had a firm fit for the 1-5 hour hikes I took during a recent vacation. Terrain ranged from flat and wet to loose (but dry) rocky mountainy surfaces. I bought them a half size big which was perfect for wearing thick wool socks. The laces are a bit slippery and had to be retied more frequently than I would have liked, but that can easily be replaced so no mark off the stars. -- great for the day hiker

I tried these shoes on before I ordered them online so I knew they fit. They do run just a tad small, so would recommend you order 1/2 size larger than usual, which I did. Nice hiking shoe -- good support. -- Exactly what I expected

These shoes fit! They are comfy, stay tied, keep on truckin' even when I'm jogging along trying to keep up with the dog. They are even handsome. I like 'em a lot. I took them on a trip to Africa last winter and wore them almost every day, even hot ones inside a bus and experienced no discomfort. -- groovy shoes
